Abstract:
The ESS will become the world’s most intense pulsed neutron source. It also has the potential to become, at the same time, the world’s most intense neutrino beam source. The interest to use such a neutrino beam to search for lepton CP violation with the potential to explain the matter-antimatter asymmetry in Universe is discussed. The equipment required, like radiofrequency sources of increased power, an accumulator ring and a neutrino target, to operate the ESS linac for neutrino beam production in parallel with neutron production, will be discussed. The physics performance of this neutrino beam in conjunction with a megaton water Cherenkov neutrino detector installed deep down in a mine 500 km away from ESS will be described
